Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020. The entire world watched an election night that started with a surprise, the first exit polls showed that, no, the coronavirus was not the number one issue for voters; it was the economy first, racial inequality second and the pandemic third. Trump supporters liked these early exit polls, as they followed a campaign where their candidate spent most of his time downplaying the pandemic and saying how much he was fed up with COVID.
But soon after, as votes started to come, the numbers were much in favor of Biden. For instance, he could be seen leading Ohio with a big margin. But as the night went along, the shift changed and Trump seemed to be on a clear path to victory. The betting sites odds suddenly switched and many expected Trump to win. It was 10pm and Trump was looking like he would be re-elected.
But as the night went along, the shift changed once again, as the mail-in ballots started to be counted towards the end and were in favor of Biden, who had asked his supporters to vote as early as possible, while Trump asked his supporters to vote in person. And Biden started to take the lead. This is when President Trump decided to make a press conference from the White House and said he won and wanted the count to be stopped in the middle of the election:
"This is a fraud on the American public, this is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election, frankly we did win this election. So our goal now is to ensure the integrity, for the good of this nation, this is a very big moment, this is a major fraud in our nation, we want the law to be used in a proper manner so we’ll be going to the US Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop."
But the night continued and there was no winner. Neither on Wednesday, nor on Thursday, nor on Friday... Ironically, after Trump referred to CNN as a fake news organization for so long, it was actually one of the only networks to not call Arizona for Biden for many days, while all the others had done it, including Fox News. But four days later, it became clear that Trump could no longer win Pennsylvania. The major news organizations announced that Joe Biden was the winner of the election.
Ironically, Trump was out golfing when it was announced. The man that fired so many on his reality-TV show The Apprentice has just been fired from the American people. As of now, Trump refuses to concede.
